평생도는 사람이 태어나서 죽을 때까지 기념이 될 만한 경사스러운 일들을 골라 그린 풍속화입니다. 내용은 돌잔치, 혼례식, 삼일유가, 한림겸수찬, 송도유수도임식, 병조판서시, 좌의정시, 회혼식 등 대개 여덟 폭의 병풍으로 만들어졌으나 조선 후기에는 열폭이나 열두폭 병풍이 유행했습니다.
이 평생도는 조선 후기에 만들어진 열 폭짜리의 민화 원본을 모사한 것입니다.
